Youth Sail Victoria 2023

Published Fri 20 Jan 2023

Victoria’s youth sailors will descend on Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club in April 2023 for the return of the Youth Sail Victoria 2023 event.

Running from 20-23 April, the event will be made up of a two-day coaching clinic on 20-21 April, followed by the Victorian Youth Championships on the 22-23 April across several junior and youth classes.

“Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club invites and welcomes all junior and youth sailors to our club for a fantastic four-day opportunity to improve their sailing skills and knowledge and importantly to have a great time,” said Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club’s Commodore Georgie Silverwood.

The event is open sailors under the age of 23, and sailors attending will receive engaging learning and skill development opportunities, safe and fair competition, plenty of social interaction with peers and performance recognition.

“We can’t wait to organise these events and work closely with Australian Sailing to showcase the best youth sailors our sport has to offer and deliver the best coaching and regatta experience we can,” said Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club Sailing manager Ben Fels.

“We’re looking forward to providing an engaging coaching clinic, doing all we can to provide the most effective time on water possible,” added Training and Development Manager David White.

“With many junior and youth sailors right now enjoying their summer participating in club training programs and racing, it’ll be great to bring everyone together. It’s exciting to be working with Sorrento who hosted the Australian Youth Championships in 2020. That event set records for attendance and was outstanding in its quality to conduct the best racing possible in the conditions,” said Meaghan Densley, General Manager - Victoria at Australian Sailing.

Participation in the event is encouraged from the following classes. Please note other classes that express interest in participating will also be included.

  • O’Pen Skiff
  • Optimist (Open & Intermediate)
