Hobart’s weather presented itself from a challenging side with a strong breeze and rain at the start of the Coaching Clinic followed by a light breeze at the Tasmanian Youth Championships; providing sailors a variety of weather during the four days of sailing that came to a close on Sunday 11 October.
Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, no stranger to running events, backed up their reputation with a record number of 45 boats registered for the Coaching Clinic and Tasmanian Youth Championships across seven (7) fleets. The club’s volunteers put in an outstanding effort, on the water and off the water including dinner held on Friday night with special guest speaker Matt Bugg – Paralympic providing insight on his journey. With the Coaching Clinic and Championships combined, it was clear to see that there was no shortage of talent across the competing classes.
Eddie Reid in the 29er class said: “It was great to be on the water and getting racing. We experienced challenging conditions on the water, the wind was coming from all directions, and the tide was extreme”.
Tom Fader, who won the Optimist Class, said “I got a lot out of the four days of sailing with coaching and youths back to back it was an awesome couple of days. Sailing over the weekend was interesting. I hadn't to experienced conditions on the Derwent where boats needed assistances getting towed to the start line due to the tide.”
Thanks to Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania and all their volunteers for their continued support in Tasmania.
