Provisional Australian Sailing Youth Team announced

The provisional Australian Sailing Youth Team (ASYT) has been announced at the 2020 Australian Youth Championships at Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC). The team, which requires ratification from the Australian Sailing Board before being finalised, will represent Australia at the Hempel Youth Sailing World Championships in Salvador, Brazil in 12 – 19 December 2020.

National Youth Champions decided after final day of racing abandoned

Racing has been abandoned for the final day of the Australian Youth Championships at Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC). The race committee continuously monitored conditions throughout the day in an effort to get the competitors on the water but lack of wind and smoke from the bushfires prevented sailing.

While Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) has an army of volunteers for the Australian Youth Championships, there are two who are definitively part of the furniture.  Fred and Barbara Allen have been members of Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) since 1979 and the pair have been volunteering at sailing events in various capacities since.

Racing was abandoned due to poor air quality and low visibility from the bush fires along with light shifty wind on day three of the Youth Championships at Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC). After waiting five hours for conditions to improve, a cheer went up from the competitors when it was announced racing was abandoned.

Tricky conditions cause leader board chaos at Australian Youth Championships

Several leading boats got knocked off their perch atop the standings after a tricky second day today at the Australian Youth Championships at Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club (SSCBC). Racing didn’t get underway until 45 minutes after the scheduled start time due to shifting light winds and a strong current, but when racing did start it was backed by eight to ten knots from the south which built throughout the afternoon.

Bushfire Fundraiser at the 2020 Australian Youth Championships Closing Ceremony

In support of those impacted by the ongoing bushfires around the country, Australian Sailing and the Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club, with the support of the Australian Sailing Team, Australia SailGP Team, Zhik and Ronstan, will be hosting a fundraising auction during the Presentation Ceremony of the 2020 Australian Youth Championships on the evening of Tuesday 14 January.

Strong Winds Push Upper Limits at Australian Youth Championships

Strong winds provided exciting conditions on the first day of racing at the 2020 Australian Youth Championships at Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club (SSCBC) on Melbourne's Port Phillip today. Conditions were partly cloudy and 19 degrees with south-westerly winds 22 to 25 knots gusting up to 30.

Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron victors at Musto Youth International

At the final day of the Musto Youth International Match Racing Regatta Jordan Stevenson, Mitch Jackson, George Angus, Jake Erson, Jeb Lardies have been declared the overall winner of the 2019 ‘Joy Ride’ Trophy, winning their first World Sailing Grade 1 event, conducted by the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.
