Published Tue 20 Oct 2020

The SA Youth Championships 2020 count-down is on with only six weeks to go until the start of an exciting SA Summer Sailing calendar!

“We are very excited to host the 2020 SA Youth Championships, and are looking forward to seeing youth sailing back at Adelaide Sailing Club”, said Adelaide Sailing Club Commodore - Peter Royle.

Sailors in the 420 Class will be out in force who have a strong group of sailors in this class.  Ben Hinks and Byron Roberston who attend the Class Nationals and Australian Youth Championships at the start of the year are keen to get as much racing were possible. “We have a solid training schedule under Coach Alex Higgins. To complement our training racing is a crucial part for us.  With no nationals or interstate regattas on the cards, local racing will be our focus sailing amongst our class”.

Another strong class in SA is the International Cadet who’s world championships have been postponed due to COVID-19. The International Cadet Worlds would have taken placed this coming season in Australian for sailors in this class; it shall provide them with another opportunity to prepare for the worlds.

“We are keen to get as much racing as possible at home; it’s just provided us another year to fine tune our skills”, Darcy Conry and Sophie Ward.

Ellen Sampson has moved over from the Optimist Open Fleet to the International 420 and is no stranger to attending regattas both local and interstate. “I enjoy attending regattas and I'm a big supporter of local events in South Australia.  Staying local is the motto and registering for as many SA events this summer”.
